Bill Jellison to be honored for lifetime achievement

HAYS, KS -- Dr. Bill Jellison, retired vice president of Student Affairs at Fort Hays State University, will be honored by the Ellis County Democratic Party on Thursday, Sept. 27, with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jellison, who graduated from FHSU in 1951 with a bachelor of science in botany and in 1952 with a master of science in education, began his career at FHSU in 1960 as dean of men. He became dean of students in 1966 and then vice president of Student Affairs in 1977. He retired in 1988.

In 2000, he was named a recipient of the FHSU Alumni Association's Alumni Achievement Award.

He served six years on the Hays City Commission, including two terms as mayor, and was also a candidate for the U.S. House, and a member of the Kansas State Supreme Court Nominating Committee. Jellison, Mike Billinger Sr. and Henry II and Juliette Schwaller will all receive their awards from the Ellis County Democratic Party at a reception and dinner beginning at 6 p.m. in the Tupperware Building, 203 W. 41st St.
