HAYS, KS -- Ida B. Wells meets Frederick Douglass in a one-act play to be performed at Fort Hays State University's Memorial Union on Thursday, April 19.
MC Players Theatrical Company, Kansas City, MO, will perform "The Princess and the Lion: A Conversation Between Ida B. Wells and Frederick Douglass." Denise Turner and Martin Chislom Jr. are the performers.
The play begins at 8 p.m. in the union's Black and Gold Ballroom. Seats are free.
Chislom is the artistic and executive director of MC Players, which is dedicated to presenting works that reflect and represent the African American experience in America.
This play brings together Frederick Douglass, called the father of the civil rights movement, and pioneering black journalist Ida B. Wells.
The play is presented by the FHSU Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Kansas Arts Commission.
