HAYS, KS -- Despite cold and rainy conditions, Fort Hays State University's Rodeo Team's spring season is well under way.
The team competed in its first rodeo of the spring 2001 season when it traveled to Manhattan for the Kansas State University Rodeo from Feb. 23-25. After a week off, the team headed to the Fort Scott Community College Rodeo in Fort Scott from March 9-11.
An additional six rodeos are on the schedule for the team. Following the two early season rodeos, the team then competes four straight weekends in April ending with the FHSU rodeo.
From April 6-8, the team heads to Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK, then to Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK, a week later, April 12-14, followed by a trip to Garden City Community College in Garden City from April 20-22. The team then comes home for the Fort Hays State University Rodeo from April 27-29.
Team members will then travel to the College Rodeo Championship Series in Enid, OK, from May 16-20.
Top rodeo competitors from across the country will then head to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY, from June 12-16. The top two individuals in the region in each event and the top two teams according to ranking qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo.
