French "Napoleon"
02/01/2001

HAYS, KS --- Fort Hays State University's French Club, in an effort to raise money for its Paris tour, will present the film "Napoleon" from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, in Rarick 114 with an admission cost of only $1.

This 1955 Hollywood classic, said Dr. Jean Salien, professor of modern languages, is the best portrayal of Napoleon Bonaparte's life and accomplishments.

The film highlights the brilliant contributions of several famous stars, such as Orson Welles, Yves Montand, Danielle Darieux and Jean Gabin. The film, directed by Sacha Guitry, portrays Napoleon from his days as a soldier and leader in the French army to his final exile on the island of Saint Helena.

The film attempts to delve into Napoleon the man, as opposed to simply characterizing his conquests.
