HAYS, KS -- Dr. Carrol Haggard, chair of the Department of Communication at Fort Hays State University, attended two recent conventions and was awarded a Distinguished Research Award for the presentation of "Susan Kelly: Defamation or a legitimate reference?"
On Oct. 12, Haggard and colleague Dr. Patricia LaPoint, professor of management at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, gave the presentation on Kelly at the International Academy for Case Studies convention in Maui, Hawaii. The two spoke on the distinction between legitimate description of prior work experience and defamation of character. The presentation received the research award as the outstanding paper in the International Academy of Case Studies.
Haggard also presented "Bradley and McCain: Establishment insurgents in the 2000 presidential campaign" at the Texas Speech Communication Association convention held Oct. 4-7 in Houston, Texas. Haggard spoke about the effect of the McCain and Bradley primary challenges on the presidential campaigns of Vice President Al Gore and Texas Gov. George Bush.
