HAYS, KS -- Marie Gibbons, a ceramic artist from Denver, will be presenting a ceramics workshop this weekend at Fort Hays State University. The workshop will take place in Rarick Hall 123 on Nov. 17-18.
A slide presentation at 8:30 a.m. Friday begins the two-day session. Later, at 1:30 p.m., Gibbons will lead a discussion of "Symbolism and Personal Iconography" and how to incorporate expression into faces.
Also, participants will have an opportunity to work on creating a bust. Those interested may purchase clay for $10 and build along with the artist. Participants will have the opportunity to work on their busts until 4:30 p.m. A potluck supper will then be held at the home of Linda Ganstrom, associate professor of art, at 6:30 p.m.
The workshop will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday, with a demonstration of Gibbons' carving techniques. At 1:30 p.m., she will discuss surface decoration and at 3:30 p.m. she will share her wisdom on marketing and using the Web as a marketing tool.
Gibbons creates ceramic busts, figures and sculptures.
