HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University rodeo team member Brady Bartel, Cambridge senior, won the steer wrestling division of the Central Plains Rodeo Association Finals, Oct. 13-15, in Hutchinson.
Brady entered the competition fifth among tough competitors who were separated by only $400. Placing second in the first go-round with a time of 5.6 seconds added him to the lineup for the second go-round, in which Brady placed first with a 4.3-second run. In the third round, Brady clocked an identical time of 4.3 seconds, making him the champion of the Central Plains Rodeo Association.
Besides receiving the title, Brady was presented with a Big Horn trophy saddle as well as a trophy buckle for winning the average finals, said Dr. Garry Brower, associate professor of agriculture.
