HAYS, KS -- A team of 19 men and women make up the fall 2000 Fort Hays State University Rodeo Team, which began competition Sept. 22-24 at the Colby Community College Rodeo.
At Colby, Katie White, Little River junior, tied for first place in the goat tying event while Amy Boettcher, Atkinson, NE, senior, took 11th place in breakaway roping. The women's team placed fourth. Members are White; Boettcher; Sadye Flynn, Broken Bow, NE, senior; and Jamie Mulanax, Hoyt sophomore.
Several members of the men's team also competed but did not place.
Next on the schedule of the rodeo team is the Pratt Community College Rodeo, Oct. 13-15. The team will then complete the fall portion of its schedule with a trip to Northwest Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK, Nov. 24.
Meanwhile, a few past and present rodeo team members qualified for the Kansas Pro Rodeo Association which took place Sept. 29 - Oct. 1. Brady Bartel, Cambridge senior, Ross "Spud" Pratt, Scott City senior, and Dustin Quint, Quinter senior, qualified for the KPRA Finals Rodeo.
Also, Pratt was the lone member of the FHSU rodeo team to make the College National Finals Rodeo June 12-17 in Casper, WY. He competed in team roping with his partner, Josh Canant of Panhandle State University. The team finished fourth. Pratt and Canant will team rope together again this year.
