HAYS, KS -- In honor of Clay Preedy, a former Fort Hays State University Rodeo Team member who was killed this summer in a vehicle accident, the FHSU Rodeo Club sponsored a Team Roping and Steer Wrestling event.
Team roping took place on Oct. 7 at noon with steer wrestling on Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. Activities on both days were in the FHSU Indoor Livestock Pavilion.
Proceeds from the benefit will be deposited to an Edward D. Jones account for Preedy's 2-year-old daughter, Bailey Rhea Preedy, to utilize as a college fund or a trust fund she can access when she is 21.
Preedy, originally of Sublette, was a steer wrestler, team roper and calf roper for the rodeo team. He graduated from FHSU in 1993 with a degree in agriculture.
Rodeo team sponsor Dr. Garry Brower, associate professor of agriculture, said Clay was a "neat guy" and the club wanted to do something for his family.
