Physics student participates in research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

HAYS, KS -- Stephen Black, Fort Hays State University senior from Medicine Lodge, is participating in material science research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN.

Black has been working at Oak Ridge since June 5, 2000, as a participant in the Department of Energy's Energy Research Undergraduate Laboratory Fellowship Program.

Black is working in the Infrared Processing Center of the Materials Processing Group in the Metals and Ceramics Division, said Dr. Gavin Buffington, assistant professor of physics.

"This program gives the student a chance to experience first-hand how research is conducted at the professional and national laboratory levels while also providing insights into areas of study not offered at FHSU," said Buffington.
