FHSU's Matthew Micek elected to chair international Knights of Columbus college conference in 2001

HAYS, KS -- Matthew Micek, a junior from Atwood at Fort Hays State University, has been elected Coordinating Committee chairman for the 36th Annual Knights of Columbus College Council Conference to be held in New Haven, CT, in 2001.

A construction systems major at FHSU, Micek served on the Coordinating Committee for the 35th annual conference that was held Sept. 22-24. Micek represented FHSU's University Council 10211, which was one of 30 college councils represented at the 2000 conference.

The Knights of Columbus is a family fraternal service which includes more than 1.6 million members in 12 different countries.

The service organization last year donated almost $110 million and more than 55 million hours of volunteer services to assorted groups of service programs and activities.

The FHSU University Council was also named as one of the top producers in insurance memberships during the 1999-2000 academic year. The University Council also received its award at the 2000 conference.
