Fall Jazz Concert to be held at Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center

HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University's Jazz Ensembles I and II will perform at the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 8 p.m.

The fall jazz concert will feature contemporary big band jazz music. Clint Ashlock, Kansas City sophomore, will be a featured soloist for Jazz Ensemble I, playing the flugelhorn. Other soloists will perform in various compositions.

Besides two formal concerts for the university, Ensemble I has been invited to play for the Kansas Music Educators Association Convention in Wichita. The FHSU jazz ensemble has been chosen three times since 1996 to play for this prestigious convention.

"This concert gives the students a chance to play in front of people, play music they like, and it gives them the opportunity to improvise," said Brad Dawson, assistant music professor.

Tickets for this event are adults $6, senior citizens and children under 12, $4. FHSU students are admitted free with ID.
