Kristin Pisano with Ravitskaya, Shepard to perform clarinet recital

Dr. Kristin Pisano, associate professor of music and theatre at Fort Hays State University, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.

Dr. Pisano has performed with the Wichita Grand Opera, where she serves as the principle clarinetist, the Hays Symphony Orchestra and the New World Symphony.

Dr. Irena Ravitskaya, piano, and Hilary Shepard, flute, both assistant professors of music and theatre, will accompany Pisano.

Pisano will open with "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun," composed by Claude Debussy. He was inspired by the French poem "The Afternoon of a Faun" and set the poem to music.

Pisano will then play "Sonata for Clarinet and Piano" by Aaron Copland, known as the Dean of American Composers.

Pisano's third piece will be "Fantasia No. 2 in A Minor" composed by G.P. Telemann. Originally written for flute, "Fantasia No. 2" was arranged for clarinet by Sidney Forrest, esteemed arranger and clarinetist.

The finale for Pisano's concert will be "Time Pieces for Clarinet and Piano," composed by Robert Mucznyski. Many major U.S. orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra, have performed Muczynski's compositions.
