A candlelight vigil on Wednesday and a day of remembrance Friday, sponsored by Fort Hays State University's American Democracy Project and Tigers in Service, will mark the 9/11 anniversary.
The public is welcome to the vigil, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, on the university's Memorial Union patio. Student Government Association President Chris Roberts, Salina junior, will be the speaker. Candles will be lit and student volunteers will lead participants in singing "America the Beautiful" and other traditional songs. The National Guard will present the colors.
On the Day of Service, Friday, Sept. 13, students will have opportunities from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to remember the lost by volunteering with the United Way. Volunteers will deliver packets to different businesses throughout the community. To volunteer, students can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
