FHSU to host activities for National Hazing Prevention Week

Fort Hays State University's Greek Life will host National Hazing Prevention Week from Tuesday, Sept. 18, to Thursday, Sept. 27. Presentations and activities are designed to raise awareness about and eliminate hazing.

National Hazing Prevention Week, observed on campuses all over the country, is intended to bring attention to the problem of hazing while providing campus organizations and individuals with an opportunity to come out against hazing practices.

This year’s Hazing Prevention Week activities include:

Tuesday, Sept. 18
--Keynote address by Liz Osborne, coordinator of fraternity and sorority affairs, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater. Osborne will share her experiences in combating hazing within higher education.
7 p.m., Memorial Union, Black and Gold Room.

Monday, Sept. 24
--Pledge card: Students will have the opportunity to sign a card pledging not to engage in hazing.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Memorial Union.

Tuesday, Sept. 25
--Pledge Card: Students will have the opportunity to sign a card pledging not to engage in hazing.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Memorial Union.

Wednesday, Sept. 26
--Sex Ed Boot Camp: Dr. Joni Frater and Esther Lastique answer questions on the topics of sexual harassment and sexual health. The event is sponsored by Student Health Services.
7 p.m., Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.

Thursday, Sept. 27
--Anti-Hazing Hero Panel (webinar): A panel of students who took action to prevent hazing on their campus will share their stories.
1 p.m., Memorial Union, Center for Student Involvment Office.
