Center for Health Improvement and FHSU to host 2nd annual 'Mud Run'
05/10/2012

Registration is now open for the second annual, two-mile Big Creek Mud Run, where a muddy obstacle course meets boot camp. The race is sponsored by Fort Hays State University and the Center for Health Improvement.

The run, east of the Gross Memorial Coliseum on the FHSU campus, is two miles of jumping, running and crawling. It is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. The entry deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 22. The registration fee is $25. Participants must be 18 years or older.

A kid's mud bath for ages 3 and up starts at 1 p.m. Food and live music will also be a part of the celebration.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m., and the first wave of runners will begin at 8:30 a.m. A new wave begins every 30 minutes with the last one beginning at 12:30 p.m. A maximum of 30 people are permitted in each wave.

Emily Washburn, assistant director of the Tiger Wellness Center and instructor of health and human performance, is also seeking volunteers to help with the event. "We are in the planning stages of the event and want to reach out to our Tiger family for help. If you are interested in volunteering, contact me," she said. "Volunteers will receive a T-shirt and lunch."

Those who volunteer can help with the registration table, assist with finish line duties, or help out at each obstacle along the course. The shifts for volunteering will be split into two, one starting at 8 a.m. and the other at 10:30 a.m. To volunteer, contact Washburn at 785-628-5908 or email eewashburn@fhsu.edu.
