Dr. Ron Schott, assistant professor of geosciences at Fort Hays State University, attended the GSA Annual Meeting and Exhibition: Science, Learning and Colleagues, the Geological Society of America's annual meeting, in Salt Lake City.
He was accompanied by one undergraduate student and four graduate students.
Schott presented a paper titled "Integrating Google Earth Imagery and Cubic QTVR Panoramas into Web-Based Virtual Field Experiences." He presented his experiences and thoughts on the topic of integrating technology, specifically Internet-based technology, in the classroom setting as a method to provide a broader more inclusive context to field-based university courses.
The GSA Annual Meeting is a forum for bringing together geoscientists and educators from around the world to improve the understanding and application of geosciences.
This year's program focused on education-related topics as well as special topics addressing geologic hazards, resource utilization and environmental policy.
