Alumni, friends seek opportunity to help Missouri Southern victims of Joplin tornado

Responding to inquiries from many concerned alumni of Fort Hays State University, the FHSU Alumni Association has initiated a fundraising drive to help sister MIAA institution Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.

While the MSSU campus escaped relatively unscathed from the May 22 EF-5 tornado that destroyed a large section of the city, many faculty and students did not. At least 50 faculty and staff lost homes and belongings. Students also suffered from the destruction of housing. The number for students is not yet known but is expected to be large.

The Missouri Southern Foundation has established a Tornado Emergency Relief Fund, and the FHSU Alumni Association and other members of the MIAA Conference will present checks to the MSSU Foundation at the June 24 MIAA T-Bones Tiger Kansas City gathering.

Alumni and friends who can help should send their checks to the FHSU Alumni Association, One Tiger Place, Hays, KS 67601, by June 21. Donors should make their checks out to the Missouri Southern Foundation, with Tornado Emergency Relief Fund as the gift designation. All gifts will be presented to the Missouri Southern alumni director at the Kansas City gathering.

Anyone with questions may contact the FHSU Alumni Association at 785-628-4430 or Additional information can be accessed through the Tiger T-Bones Tailgate Party calendar item on the page at Tickets for the game are still available.
