International Student Services Office at Fort Hays State University will celebrate International Education Week, Monday, Nov. 8, through Friday, Nov. 12, with a variety of activities.
The Proclamation signing for International Education Week will take place at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, in the Dreiling Lobby in Sheridan Hall. International students are encouraged to attend to show support for International Education Week and internationalization at FHSU. A reception will follow this event including refreshments.
Alina Fernandez, Fidel Castro’s daughter, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Sheridan Hall. In her illuminating talk, Fernandez will share her first-person, intimate account of growing up in Cuba.
Haixin "Ellen" Wang, Shenyan, China, junior, will speak on Chinese Acrobatics at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Cody Commons in the Memorial Union.
An International Student Exchange Program and National Student Exchange information meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Stouffer Lounge in the Memorial Union. The Kaffeestunde: FHSU German Club will also be meeting at 4 p.m. at Coffee Rules.
The Presbyterian Church will present "Mehran’s Global Journey to ESL" at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12. The church is located at 2900 Hall St.
Other activities throughout the week include: National and International Exchange information bulletin board in Forsyth Library; reading at story time to children at the Hays Area Children’s Center, Happy Days Childcare and Tiger Tot’s; classroom presentations in Hays area schools; classroom presentations on exchange programs; flags of represented countries hanging in the Memorial Union; and presentations on Summer Exchange to China.
There will also be a Study Abroad Information Table set up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, and Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Memorial Union.
International Education Week is sponsored by Diversity Affairs, International Student Services, International Student Union, Memorial Union, Modern Language Department and the Student Affairs Office.
