Students help promote college ministry

Five seniors from the Department of Informatics at Fort Hays State University recently created a promotional video for a college ministry outreach program in Hays as part of a college course.

The group consisted of Schuyler Coates, St. Francis special student; Andrew Frey, Garden City graduate student; Dustin Pahls, Tipton senior; Spencer Reames, Jamestown special student; and Sara Sayers, Hutchinson senior.

The students created the video for Encounter, a college ministry outreach program at Celebration Community Church. The video consists of several interview clips, scenes from worship services and a series of digital music files that were written and performed by Encounter's musical group, Ignite.

Coates said she wanted to work on the project because she has been involved with the ministry all through college.

"It was great being able to combine my extra-curricular activities with my academics," she said. "It was also nice being able to give back something to the ministry that has given me so much."

The video will be shown at Celebration Community Church's summer youth conference, which annually hosts about 500 junior high and high school students. In addition, a copy will be sent home with each group that attends.

The students said they hope the video will help Encounter reach out to incoming students interested in attending FHSU.
