An Ohio man who visited Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum of Natural History on Sept. 29 is the fifth winner of a collector's print of one of John Cody's famous silk moth paintings.
Joe Riegelsberger, Avon Lake, OH, won "Sunset Moths" (Chrysidia madagascariensis), print 522 of 550. The drawing took place Oct. 19.
Riegelsberger's name was picked in a drawing from ballots submitted by persons who visited the Sternberg Museum during September. Additional drawings will be held each month until the exhibition closes next May. Previous winners were Elaine Smriga of Hays, Bartlett Ramsey of Topeka, Mary Goetz of Chubbuck, ID, and Janet Boeve of Katy, TX.
About 80 of Cody's paintings of moths are on display at the museum, along with associated interactive educational and scientific exhibits. "John Cody’s Moths," originally scheduled to close Aug. 21, has been such a popular exhibit at the museum that the run has been extended to May 14, 2006. The drawings will also continue until the new date.
All visitors who participate in the museum's balloting to determine the most popular Cody painting will be entered in a drawing. Ballots will be distributed with museum admission to all visitors age 4 and older. Separate drawings will be held from ballots collected after each month of the exhibition.
A total of 13 prints will be given away in the drawings. The next drawing will be in November to choose a winner from October visitors to the museum.
Individuals are limited to one entry per drawing but may enter in multiple drawings.
