Block and Bridle Club receives national recognition

Fort Hays State University's Block and Bridle Club received recognition for its work in the Chapter Scrapbook category at the recent 90th annual National Block and Bridle Convention in Louisville, Ky.

As the historian chairs for the group, Erica Wasson, Baldwin senior, and Wendy Dague, Washington senior, compiled the scrapbook. Competitors were asked to create a book that covered events from June 1 through May 31 or summer, fall and spring semesters.

"Our biggest challenge was trying to do something unique and creative that would put us a step ahead of the other schools we competed against," said Wasson. "We tried something new this year by creating our own cover instead of a store-bought book."

Wasson and Dague used a branding iron to stamp the school and group name on the wooden cover to earn more creativity points.

The group competed against 13 other schools and received fifth place in the scrapbook division. About 40 schools attended from all over the country.
