The University Bookstore at Fort Hays State University will celebrate an open house to welcome Follett Higher Education Group as the store's new managing company. Festivities will include a ribbon cutting, discounted merchandise and musical and artistic performers.
And don't forget the food and drinks. Events are scheduled to take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the bookstore in the Memorial Union on the FHSU Campus.
Follett Higher Education Group, which manages more than 850 bookstores nationwide and provides services to more than 1,800 independently managed bookstores, regained the contract to manage the University Bookstore in August.
While celebrating new changes, the bookstore will also welcome back a familiar face. Steve Gonzales, who previously managed the bookstore from 1985-1999, has returned to manage the business.
Shoppers will receive 20-percent discounts on purchases of FHSU merchandise from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Customers may also enter a drawing for a chance to win one of five $20 gift cards. Virtual College students not able to make it to the grand opening may visit the bookstore's Web site by clicking on the bookstore link under Student Services on the Virtual College Web site to obtain their discounts.
Refreshments will be served starting at 11 a.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony is at 11:30 a.m. with the Hays Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors.
Weston Cossman, Jetmore sophomore, and Mike Pipkin will provide musical entertainment. Cossman will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Pipkin will perform from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Peter Koelsch, Hays graduate student, will draw caricatures from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Christmas cookie decorating, sponsored by the University Activities Board, will be in the Sunset Lounge of the union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All events are sponsored by the Hays Chamber of Commerce, the Memorial Union, the UAB and the University Bookstore.
