Two major events remain on the spring semester schedule for Fort Hays State University’s Felten-Start Theatre.
The Student Director’s Showcase, organized by Erin Renard, instructor of communication studies, will take place April 10 and 11. An alumnus, a student and a faculty member will direct.
The performance will feature a one-act play, “Next,” directed by Shley Snider, a graduate student in the Geosciences Department; some improvisation scenes directed by Scott Raider, FHSU alumnus of theatre; as well as scenes directed by George Jackson III, coordinator of FHSU’s Diversity Affairs, from his original script. The showcase will also include some dance numbers and scenes from musical theatre. A group of graphic arts students will put together some projected scenery for the production.
The actors will be FHSU students and community members. The showcase will be in the Felten-Start Theatre in Malloy Hall. Tickets are $5 for general admission and are available at the door.
For the first time at FHSU, a festival featuring original films submitted by students and community members will begin at 7 p.m., April 17, in the Memorial Union’s Cody Commons. Admission is free.
“The purpose of this is to get the film culture on campus going,” said Renard.
