Renard performs and directs in Hays Arts Council play

Fort Hays State University's Erin Renard, instructor of theatre, performed in the Hays Arts Council's September production of "Talking With…," written by Jane Martin, as the character "Marti." She also directed two monologues for the production.

"Talking With…" is a collection of monologues that premiered at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, Ky., as part of the 1982 Humana Festival of New American Plays.

"It is really about women's experiences. The monologues are by very distinct characters that are very flawed," said Renard.

The four performances of "Talking With" were fundraisers in place of the council's usual auction.

Renard's monologue as "Marti," titled "Dragons," takes place in the emergency room as she is in labor and having difficulties with the baby. Marti envisions that she will have a dragon baby and is concerned the doctors are not prepared.

"There were members of the audience breathing with me because they were getting so into it," she said.
