The sabbatical exhibition of Amy Schmierbach, associate professor of art at Fort Hays State University, will be in the Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art, Rarick Hall, room 102, from Dec. 5-Jan. 9.
A reception from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, at Moss-Thorns Gallery will be in conjunction with the Winter Gallery Walk.
The exhibition, "The Spaces Between," includes numerous drawings and prints and one installation piece.
In her new series, Schmierbach said, she aims to abstractly illustrate the tension between freedom and confinement on everyday life. The abstract landscapes use textured materials, such as flocking and thread, to emphasize the importance of touching and being touched. The circular repetitive patterns and sewing signify the obsessive compulsiveness of thought process. This series of prints and drawings were created in the spaces between peace and chaos, she said.
The Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
