South Africa’s world famous Soweto Gospel Choir will give a free, public lecture and demonstration at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in Fort Hays State University’s Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in advance of the choir’s scheduled evening performance in Beach/Schmidt.
The group, appearing at FHSU as part of the 2008-2009 Encore Series, recently won its second Grammy Award. The Soweto Gospel Choir was formed to celebrate the “unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music. The choir is dedicated to sharing the joy of faith through music with audiences around the world,” according to its Web site.
This presentation is supported by Mid-America Arts Alliance with generous underwriting by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kansas Arts Commission, and foundations, corporations, and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in Beach/Schmidt. Reserved seats are $22 for the public and $20 for senior citizens and youths under 18. Unreserved seats are $18 for the public and $16 for senior citizens and youths under 18. Tickets for FHSU students are $18 for reserved seats and $14 for unreserved seats.
