And the winner is … TigerTracks, which, with a vote of 189 to 140 for its nearest challenger, will be the name of the new Fort Hays State University portal, set to go online in January.
TigerTracks won out over the other four finalists from about 150 submissions in the portal naming contest. A total of 597 students participated in the online voting.
Two of them were selected by random drawing as the winners of the last of five $100 gift certificates to the University Bookstore in Memorial Union. The final two winners were Vicky Sanner, Hiawatha sophomore, and Kiley Eisenhour, Stafford senior.
The vote: TigerTracks, 189; TigerWire, 140; CyberTiger, 135; TigerLink, 80; and TigerConnect, 25.
The three students who won gift certificates in the Part I drawing were Brandon Hollerich, Tipton freshman, Christopher Swartz, Hutchinson junior, and Christina Morse, Pratt graduate student. Their names were drawn from the pool of all students who submitted portal names.
The portal will increase Internet convenience for FHSU students through single-sign-on access to both local and global Web information that is personally customized according to each student's needs. A student can check FHSU e-mail on line; interact with classes, professors and friends; look up club and event information; and conduct business with the university. Students also will be able to perform such tasks as checking their grades, reviewing their transcripts and paying their tuition, all from a computer keyboard.
Faculty and staff will also have access to the portal to communicate with students and other faculty and to conduct business with the university.
