Author Robert Day to come to Memorial Union for reading
10/15/2008

Robert Day, author of "The Last Cattle Drive" and other novels, will be at Fort Hays State University's Memorial Union on Monday, Oct 20. Day will read selections from his book at 7:45 p.m. in the Black and Gold room of the Memorial Union.

Day received his M.A. in 1965 from the University of Kansas and taught at FHSU.

"The Last Cattle Drive," a novel that the Kansas City Star calls "very real, earthy and vital … exceedingly well told and funny," was published in 1977. The story is about a young man who takes a teaching job in Gorham and then goes on a cattle drive for his second job.

Day said in an interview about his novel, "It is a story that is a clash of cultures. Of youth and age. Of the old half-dead West and the new very-dead suburbs."

The book celebrated its 30-year anniversary last year.
