Hays Symphony Orchestra concert set for Friday

The Hays Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in Sheridan Hall on the Fort Hays State University campus.

The orchestra's performance will include "Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B Minor" by Johann Sebastian Bach, "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for Violin" by Camille Saint-Saëns, "Poème for Violin and Orchestra" by Ernest Chausson and "March Slave" by Peter Ilitch Tchaikovsky.

The Hays Symphony Orchestra is comprised of FHSU students and faculty and community members. The orchestra presents four concerts each season.

A few concert pieces will feature Selim Giray, associate professor of violin at Pittsburg State University, on violin. He has performed as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and orchestra player and is currently principal second violin of the North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

He has performed in several countries and has appeared on radio and television. Recent travels have taken him to Paraguay, Turkey and Pakistan to learn, teach and perform violin.

Tickets are $4 for children and seniors and $6 for adults. Admission is free for FHSU students with their TigerCard IDs.
