Mortar Board chapter receives national award

Fort Hays State University's Gold Cord chapter of Mortar Board was recognized and honored for excellence at the 2008 national conference in Columbus, Ohio.

The group was one of 59 chapters to receive the Silver Torch Award, presented to chapters exhibiting timeliness and dedication.

The FHSU chapter president, Shayna Henry, Schoenchen senior, accepted the award on behalf of the chapter.

Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, the organization has grown from the four founding chapters to 226 chartered collegiate chapters with nearly a quarter of a million initiated members across the nation.  The Gold Cord chapter at FHSU was chartered in 1971 and currently has 18 members.
