A piano camp and a children's music camp are among several music programs that will be offered throughout the summer by the Department of Music at Fort Hays State University.
The piano camp, for students grades 7-12, will run from May 31 to June 7 with guest pianist Luba Poliak. Daily activities include private lessons, faculty recitals, master classes, lectures on music theory, history and piano literature, and working on keyboard skills. The High Plains Children's Music Camp for grades 3-5 is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 2 to June 6 in Malloy Hall, room 115. Camp activities include performing, reading and singing, and creating and listening to music. Classes are taught by FHSU faculty and recent music education graduates. Dr. David Frego, associate professor at The Ohio State University, will present a Dalcroze workshop for all arts educators from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 9-12 in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. Dalcroze is an approach to music education, and participants will engage in ear training, eurhythmics and improvisation. Arts educators of all levels are welcome and undergraduate and graduate credit is available. The High Plains Band Camp, July 20 to July 26, features artists Michael Rabinowitz, David Holsinger, Thomas Gallant, Jennifer Rhyne, Jimmy Clark, Ed Jones, Gerald Spaits and Mark Shilansky. The enrollment deadline is June 20 and costs $400 for those staying on-campus and $200 for day campers.
