SBDC offers money-saving seminar

The Fort Hays State University Small Business Development Center's Employer Roundtable will discuss sales tax exemptions and income tax credits at its October session, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, 3000 Sternberg Drive.

The Employer Roundtable is a new opportunity for business owners to meet on topics of interest, with the emphasis on ways to improve the bottom line.

The specific sales tax exemptions to be discussed are utilities used in production and material and labor to construct a "Qualified Business Facility."

Income tax credits to be covered are Business and Job, Schedule K-34; Business Machinery and Equipment, K-64; Child Day Care Assistance Credit, K-56; Disabled Access Credit, K-37; Small Employer Health Insurance Credit, K-57; and Math and Science Credit, K-71.

Ron Grant and Sheila Hachmeister will be the presenters. Grant is from the Kansas Department of Revenue, and Hachmeister is with Liberty Group and Dessin Fournir of Plainville.

The Hays Area Chamber of Commerce is the promotional sponsor. Program sponsors are the Kansas Department of Commerce, Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Corp., FHSU's Small Business Development Center, SER Corp., and Kansas Legal Services. The meal is sponsored by Nex-Tech and Rural Telephone Service Company Inc.

The deadline to register is Oct. 6. Space is limited and reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.
