Chief of police publishes article in The Police Chief
04/03/2008

Ed Howell, director of University Police at Fort Hays State University, published "College and University Policing, Community Policing in a University Environment," in the March 2008 issue of The Police Chief, the journal of the International Chief of Police Association.

That issue focused on college and university policing. Howell's article covers community policing concepts coupled with technology in a university environment. Howell also highlights the new Center of Public Safety (COPS) in Custer Hall on the university campus. University Police completed moving to the new facility on March 21.

"This facility represents a convergence of all UPD operations (in a controlled and secure environment), encompassing law enforcement, public safety education, emergency management and planning, and public safety communications for the university," wrote Howell.
