FHSU students build Web site for Cosmosphere
09/20/2005

The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson has a new and improved Web site thanks to a group of Fort Hays State University students.

Six students teamed up for their Capstone in Information Networking class to "undertake the massive job of rebuilding the Cosmosphere's Web site," said Dr. Mark Bannister, Information Networking and Telecommunications Department chair. "This is a very complex and highly sophisticated site."

They began working on the site in December 2004 and finished in early May 2005.

The Cosmosphere's site now has a more professional look, which lends itself to the site's improved safety.

"It is now set up to conduct e-commerce in a secure manner and has a transactional database," said Bannister.

The new layout allows staff to easily maintain and update the site's information about everything from the schedule of events to the gift shop's inventory, according to Bannister.
