Philosophy Dept. to sponsor first 'Civil Discussion' of academic year
09/20/2005

Gene Anderson, Hays attorney, will present "All I Hear is a Whimper: Americans Sheepishly Give up Freedoms" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Hays Public Library gallery.

Anderson will address the question of whether Americans are too willing to yield their freedoms to the government during times of conflict and what politicians historically have done on the authority of national security, from the first Sedition Act to present.

After Anderson's presentation, the discussion will be opened to the audience.

This presentation is one of the "Civil Discussions of Controversial Issues," a public colloquium series sponsored by Fort Hays State University's Department of Philosophy as part of the American Democracy Project.
