Accountants can help fulfill their continuing education requirements on ethics through a seminar offered by Fort Hays State University's Small Business Development Center.
The seminar will be offered in Great Bend and Hays. Great Bend's seminar will be Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Front Door Facility, 1615 10th St. The seminar in Hays will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21, at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, 3000 Sternberg Drive.
Topics range from defining "accounting" for purposes of decision making, the difficulty in defining "truth," ethical issues in determining what are assets and liabilities, what is a failure to disclose and how to make ethical decisions and implement them. Case studies will also be presented for discussion.
Dr. Harriet Caplan, an attorney and instructor in the Management and Marketing Department of the College of Business and Leadership at FHSU, will be the presenter. She has had extensive experience with ethics while serving as the University's Affirmative Action Officer.
Registration is $75. After Oct. 12, registration will be $95.
