Fort Hays State University's Music Department will showcase pianist Luba Poliak at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.
Born in Russia to a family of musicians, Poliak began studying piano at the age of five and had her first solo performance with an orchestra at the age of 11. She later immigrated with her family to Israel, where she received a bachelor's degree in music from Tel-Aviv University and a master's in music from the New England Conservatory in Boston, Mass.
Poliak is currently working on her doctorate at Stony Brook University, N.Y. She has established an active performing career throughout Israel, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Australia and the United States.
Poliak will perform a solo program for the first half of the recital and will be joined by Dr. Tali Morgulis, assistant professor of music, for the second half. They will play Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1.
Admission to the concert is free to all FHSU students, $4 for senior citizens and children under 12, and $6 for adults.
