Fort Hays State University's Gold Cord Chapter of Mortar Board was named one of 51 recipients of the Silver Torch award for the 2006-2007 academic year. The award was announced at the recent Mortar Board national conference.

Gold Cord Chapter President Nicole Nixon, Hays senior, was at the conference to accept the award. FHSU received the award based on its timeliness and dedication as well as scholarship, leadership and service.

Mortar Board, a national honor society that recognizes college seniors, was founded in 1918. FHSU's Gold Cord Chapter was founded in 1971.
