English professor publishes article

Based on her presentation at a history conference last year, Dr. Amy Cummins, assistant professor of English at Fort Hays State University, published an article about women writers in the South before the Civil War.

The 14-page article, "Loyal and Devoted Attachment: Anti-Abolition Rhetoric by Southern Women of Letters, 1852-1860," appeared in the fall-winter 2007 edition of the quarterly journal, "Southern Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of the South."

It focuses on the writers Caroline Lee Hentz, Louisa McCord and Mary Howard Schoolcraft, reviewing southern fiction and journalism prior to the Civil War.
