Students and advisors receive awards at banquet

Eighteen student leaders and seven student organizations at Fort Hays State University were recognized for outstanding service at a banquet May 2.

The FHSU Center for Student Involvement, Student Government Association and Office of Student Affairs hosted the Student Organization Awards Banquet and Etiquette Dinner.

Dr. Edward H. Hammond, president of FHSU, gave opening remarks at the event and then was assisted by Drew Thomas, Hays, special student and president of the Student Government Association, in handing out the awards. Gail Kuehl, business owner in Hays, gave a presentation on etiquette during a five-course meal.

"Overall, the event was a wonderful celebration for Student Organization Members and Advisors on the completion of the 2006-2007 academic year," said Chandra Daffer, assistant director of student activities.

Eighteen students were recognized as outstanding members. They are listed by hometown, classification and organization.

Outstanding Members:
ABILENE: Shandra Sumner, freshman, Custer Hall Council.
CHAPMAN: Matt Wood, senior, Society of Physics Students.
EFFINGHAM: Aaron Ladd, junior, Interfraternity Council.
ELLIS: Jeremy Dorzweiler, junior, National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
GARDEN CITY: Jennifer Norman, senior, Phi Epsilon Kappa.
GLASCO: Kurtis Tobald, junior, Agronomy Club.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb.: Emily Griess, sophomore, Block & Bridle.
GREAT BEND: Kinzie Manning, junior, Delta Zeta.
HAYS: Cole Engel, senior, Student Government Association.
JETMORE: Terri Shriwise, junior, University Activities Board.
