Students place in mathematics competition
04/13/2007

Ben Faber, Hays special undergraduate, and Roger Bach, Jetmore senior, finished fourth for Fort Hays State University in the recent Third Annual Mathematics Competition at Wichita State University. Natalie Hilger, Hays senior, Mike Carlson, Hays senior, and Andrew Leiker, Hays sophomore, finished 10th in the competition.

The students had to solve problems using concepts from calculus, real analysis, probability, statistics and combinatorics, a field of pure math that combines problem-solving and theory. They competed against 10 teams from Kansas, including the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Emporia State University and Washburn University.

The competition was in conjunction with a Kansas Mathematics Association of America meeting.
