Seventeen Fort Hays State University students traveled to Italy for Spring Break with Martha Holmes, assistant professor of art, and Charmion Arthur, instructor of art.
Holmes is teaching Renaissance Baroque Art History this semester. She said she decided to travel to Italy because Italy was the place where this period began.
"The students loved it. They could see the art first hand," said Holmes. "They were surprised at the great difference between what the art looked like in person and the art in a picture or a slide."
The students were also able to explore Italian culture while there. They found that many of the foods that Americans consider Italian are really not or have been Americanized.
Holmes said she hopes to make this an annual trip and travel to various countries through the years.
