Fort Hays State University's Financial Planning team has qualified for the finals of the Ameriprise Financial Planning Invitational on April 18 through April 21 in Minneapolis, Minn.
"This is the national championship of financial planning and open to those universities that have CFP Board Registered Programs," said Dr. Tom Johansen, associate professor of finance and financial planning program director. "I am confident that our students will represent Fort Hays State University with integrity and professionalism."
Teams from FHSU won the national championship each of the first two years of the competition.
Julie Olson, Beloit senior, Brittney Stecklein, Hays senior, and Jason Bock, Ellsworth senior, will compete against Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Kansas State, Wright State, Minnesota State-Mankato, Appalachian State and Slippery Rock in the final two phases of the competition.
There are three phases of the competition; a written financial plan, an oral presentation of the plan and a game show similar to "Jeopardy." The top eight written financial plans in the country advance to the finals to present their plans and participate in the game show.
"We are seven for seven. That is, we have competed for seven years and made it to the finals in each of the seven years," said Johansen. "We have also been in the top five in the nation every year."
