Fort Hays State University's Small Business Development Center will offer three separate tax workshops in May -- Small Business Tax, Contractor Tax and Record Keeping with Quickbooks. Each workshop will be held in Colby, Hays and Great Bend.
Small Business Tax will be offered in Colby from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at the Chamber Office, 350 S. Range; in Hays from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, in the Stouffer Lounge of FHSU's Memorial Union; and in Great Bend from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, at the Golden Belt 1 Stop, 1025 Main.
The Small Business Tax workshop will help in clarifying important topics that can seem to be time-consuming and often confusing for business owners. Two main topics are sales tax and withholding tax.
The sales tax presentation will cover subjects concerning Kansas Retailers' Sales Tax, Kansas Retailers' Compensating Use Tax, Kansas Consumers' Compensating Use Tax, goods and services subject to sales tax, record keeping, and purchases with exemption certificates.
Withholding tax, the second topic, will cover Kansas income tax withholding requirements, tax responsibilities, filing requirements and form preparation.
The Taxpayer Education Unit of Kansas Department of Revenue will present.
Registration for the Small Business Tax workshops is $35. Late registration, after April 24, is $45.
The Contractor Tax workshop will be in Colby from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at the Chamber Office, 350 S. Range; in Hays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, in the Stouffer Lounge of FHSU's Memorial Union; and in Great Bend from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, at the Chamber Office, 1307 Williams.
The Contractor Tax workshop helps to clarify important topics for those in the construction, installation or similar businesses. The workshop is jointly sponsored by SBDC and the Kansas Department of Revenue.
Registration for the Contractor Tax workshops is $45. Late registration, after April 24, is $55.
Record Keeping with Quickbooks, an introductory, three-part workshop is taught in three sessions at Colby, Hays and Great Bend. Each session is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Colby's workshop is on Tuesdays, April 3, 10 and 17, at Colby Community College, room BMC 707; Hays' workshop is on Mondays, March 26, April 2 and April 9, on the FHSU campus in McCartney Hall, room 116; Great Bend's workshop is on Thursdays, April 19, 26 and May 3, of Barton County Community College's technical building, room T-111.
Registration for the workshop is $150. Late registration is $180. Registration deadlines are March 19 for Hays, March 27 for Colby and April 12 for Great Bend.
Sheryl Davis, certified public accountant, will be the instructor for the Quickbooks workshop.
