Adah Howat's estate establishes scholarships at FHSU

Adah Howat, a 50-year resident of Meade, dedicated her life to helping local children. Even in her death, she has found a way to continue helping and encouraging children and young adults.

Upon Howat's death on Feb. 21, 2005, her estate, valued more than $775,000, established the Adah Howat Scholarship Trust with the Fort Hays State University Endowment Association. Deserving FHSU students must demonstrate a superior grade-point average and a financial need for assistance. Preference will go to students graduating from Meade or Trego County high schools.

Howat was the secretary at Meade High School for 50 years until her retirement in 1985. She dedicated her life to helping young people with gifts of encouragement, time and even money when it was needed.
