Horticulture students help dress up Hays park as part of National Youth Service Day

HAYS, KS -- Fort Hays State University students participated in a community service-learning project for the home horticulture class during National Youth Service Day on April 15.

Funding for the project was made available through a grant from the Hays Optimist Club with matching funds from the City of Hays Parks Department. Students planted an ornamental grass display, mulched trees, picked up litter and installed a park bench at Sunrise Park in Hays. Dr. Jean Gleichsner, associate professor of agriculture within FHSU's College of Health and Life Sciences, coordinated the project.

Hanover: Matt Kruse, senior.
Hays: Nathan Flax, freshmen, Lianne Kitzis, senior, Nick Newell, sophomore.
