HAYS, KS -- Mary Goetz of Chubbuck, ID, is the Sternberg Museum of Natural History's third winner of a print of a John Cody moth painting. Goetz won an artist's proof of Cody's "Malaysian Moon Moth."
The artist pulled Goetz's name from the hopper Aug. 23 in a drawing held in the lobby of Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum.
About 80 of Cody's paintings of moths are on display at the museum, along with associated interactive educational and scientific exhibits. "John Cody’s Moths," originally scheduled to close Aug. 21, has been such a popular exhibit at the museum that the run has been extended to May 14, 2006. The drawings will also continue until the new date.
All visitors who participate in the museum's balloting to determine the most popular Cody painting will be entered in a drawing. Ballots will be distributed with museum admission to all visitors age 4 and older. Separate drawings will be held from ballots collected after each month of the exhibition.
A total of 13 prints will be given away in the drawings. The fourth drawing will be in September to choose a winner from August visitors.
Individuals are limited to one entry per drawing but may enter in multiple drawings. Details on museum membership, which entitles individuals or families to unlimited free admission along with other valuable benefits, is available toll free at 1-877-332-1165 or online at www.fhsu.edu/sternberg/member.shtml.
Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1-7 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and youths (age 4-12), and $3 for FHSU students with ID. Admission is free for museum members and children 3 and under. The museum is closed on Mondays.
