Keeping up with advancing technology requires a strong support system, such as the one provided for the last 10 years by the Fort Hays State University Computing and Telecommunication Center HelpDesk
HelpDesk will celebrate those 10 years of service with a reception held from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9 in Tomanek Hall, room 113. Refreshments will be served. Until then, the HelpDesk will offer specials and a chance to register to win gift cards from the University Bookstore, USB drives and other prizes that will be given away at the reception.
When FHSU launched an expanded Internet access campaign in November 1996, Nancy Cunningham, Information Center supervisor, was in charge of developing an office to house and support it. For the last 10 years, Cunningham has helped to improve and expand what is now called the CTC HelpDesk to support new university systems and technological advancements.
"I enjoy every aspect of my career, but the most rewarding is being able to help someone solve a difficult problem," said Cunningham.
The CTC HelpDesk is the focal point for technical assistance, referral information and access to FHSU computing and telecommunication services. Staff provide assistance for a variety of tasks, such as accessing the TigerTracks Web portal, using FHSU e-mail, obtaining Internet dial-up and wireless access, posting student Web pages and locating computer labs. All faculty, staff and students can use the services by presenting a valid FHSU ID.
A variety of products and services are available at the HelpDesk. Workstations are available to copy, print and scan color documents. Users can send or receive faxes and purchase computer supplies, such as disks, CD-Rs, CD cases, portable USB drives and USB extension cables. Select Microsoft products are also available at volume discount prices through the online Software Center.
The event is sponsored by the Computing and Telecommunications Center, Tiger Info and the University Bookstore.
