36 students nominated for FHSU Torch Award

HAYS, KS -- Thirty-six graduating seniors at Fort Hays State University have been recognized as 2004 Torch Award nominees.

The award is given annually by the FHSU Alumni Association to an outstanding senior based on leadership, high personal standards of conduct, commitment and outstanding academic achievement. Students are nominated by faculty members.

The winner will be announced at the Graduate Faculty Brunch at 11:30 a.m. May 13 in the Fort Hays Ballroom of the Memorial Union. The brunch honors all FHSU graduating students and is sponsored by the Alumni Association. The association, established in 1916, is dedicated to identifying and serving the needs of more than 36,000 graduates living throughout the United States and 61 foreign countries.

The nominees and their majors are listed in alphabetical order.

Jill Ackerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Ackerman, Spearville, graduated from Spearville High School. She will be graduating FHSU with a bachelor of science in speech-language pathology.

Bridgette Baker, daughter of Melvin and Jane Baker, Marienthal, graduated from Wichita County High School. She will be graduating FHSU with a bachelor of science in education with a major in elementary education.

Sarah Bartlett, daughter of Paul and Sheryl Hedlund, Great Bend, graduated from Great Bend High School. She will be graduating FHSU with a bachelor of science in education with a major in elementary education.

Kathleen Beamer, daughter of Bob and Vanda Beamer, Mulvane, graduated from Mulvane High School. She will be graduating FHSU with a bachelor of arts in communication studies.

Ashley Blomberg, daughter of Dennis and Lynette Blomberg, Lindsborg, graduated from Smoky Valley High School. She will be graduating FHSU with a bachelor of science in nursing.

Melodie Bock, daughter of Charles and Roberta Bock, Cawker City, graduated from Waconda East High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in biology.

John Booze, son of Tim and Jan Booze, Ness City, graduated from Ness City High School. He will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Jessica Brack, daughter of Alan and Janice Brack, Bison, graduated from Otis-Bison High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Kylee Colson, daughter of Michaela Colson, Medicine Lodge, and Doug Colson, graduated from Medicine Lodge High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in communication studies and a bachelor of science in organizational leadership.

Claire Dailey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dailey, Garden City, graduated from Garden City High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in education with a major in elementary education.

William Dean, son of Richard and Janice Dean, Washington, graduated from Washington High School. He will graduate FHSU with an associate of science in radiologic technology and a bachelor of science in medical diagnostic imaging.

Taryn Everhart, daughter of Todd and Teressa Everhart, Dodge City, graduated from Dodge City High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in information networking and telecommunications.

Kristen Gassmann, daughter of Alan and Darlene Gassman, Hoxie, graduated from Hoxie High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in speech-language pathology.

Jennifer Hake, daughter of Mike and Cindy Hake, Colby, graduated from Oakley High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in health and human performance.

Mitchell Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Hall, Anthony, graduated from Chaparral High School. He will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in political science.

Katherine Jones, daughter of Robert Jones, Concordia, graduated from Concordia High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in communication studies.

Kelsey Kennedy, daughter of Brian and Jane Kennedy, Myrtle Point, OR, graduated from Myrtle Point, OR, High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in agriculture with a major in agribusiness.

Casey King, son of Wade and Leitha King, Ellis, graduated from Ellis High School. He will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in information networking and telecommunications.

Tina Leeper, daughter of Vicki Bowles, Great Bend, graduated from Great Bend High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Robert Lloyd, son of Richard and Elizabeth Lloyd, Clay Center, graduated from Wakefield High School. He will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in foreign language.

Abby Markley, wife of Ben Markley, Hays, and daughter of Greg and Sani Dutt, Abilene, graduated from Abilene High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in English and a bachelor of science in education with a major in secondary education.

Benjamin Markley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Markley, Chapman, graduated from Chapman High School. He will graduate FHSU with a bachelor's degree in music performance.

Jaqueline McKenna, daughter of Pat and Shelly McKenna, Jennings, graduated from Prairie Heights-Jennings High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in communication studies and a bachelor of science in organizational leadership.

Kollisa McVay, daughter of David and Debbie McVay, Plains, graduated from Southwestern Heights High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in information networking and telecommunications.

Katherine Mergen, daughter of Doug and Susan Mergen, Salina, graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in speech-language pathology.

Crystal Pounds, daughter of Matt and Sharon Pounds, Eskridge, graduated from Brewster High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in information networking and telecommunications.

Graciela Santiago, daughter of Juan and Cecilia Santiago, Garden City, graduated from Garden City High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in psychology.

Julie Shaffer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shaffer, Wichita, graduated from Wichita North High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in education with a major in elementary education and a bachelor of arts in foreign language.

Valerie Simon, daughter of Beverly Simon, Ransom, graduated from Ransom High School. She will graduate FHSU with an associate of science in radiologic technology and a bachelor of science in medical diagnostic imaging.

Megan M. Smith, daughter of Kevin and Nadine Smith, Ellsworth, graduated from Ellsworth High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in communication studies.

Rodney Solko, son of Ronald and Diane Solko, Oberlin, graduated from Decatur County High School. He will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of business administration with a major in marketing.

Kari Talbott, daughter of Gary Talbott, Pratt, graduated from Pratt High School. She will graduate FHSU with an associate of science in radiologic technology and a bachelor of science in medical diagnostic imaging.

Amy J. Walker, wife of Austin, Hays, and daughter of Chuck and JoAnn Poduska, Lenexa, graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Kathryn Wallert, wife of Larry, Russell, graduated from C.E. Donart High School, Stillwater, OK. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Morgan Whitaker, daughter of Bruce and Joyce Whitaker, Sublette, was home schooled. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of arts in political science.

Jenny Wilkerson, daughter of Jeanette Bieker, Hays, graduated from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School. She will graduate FHSU with a bachelor of science in psychology.
